Don’t Get Locked Out of Your Car Again
Never say that it won’t happen to you because as soon as you begin thinking like this, it happens; you’ve just gotten out of the car and your keys are not in your hand. This is a situation that we don’t wish on anyone. You can be sure that if you are a motorist that it can happen to you and when it does, there is usually no one to blame accept yourself. This is what makes it worse than it actually is. You don’t have anyone to point the finger at. It leaves you upset, frustrated, irritated, and any other word you can imagine when you do something that can be avoided.
Our suggestions:
- Create a Routine When Getting In & Out of Your Car
If you routinely look down to see the keys in your hand or you do not get out until you look to see that your keys are in your handbag, you can then proceed to get out of the car. By developing some type of routine, you are less likely to lock your keys in the car. The goal of this exercise is to make sure you always have your keys on you before you exit the vehicle. Making a visual inspection of exactly where your car keys are, every time you exit, is one of the most effective ways to avoid a lockout.
- Have Your Cars Locks Replaced
This suggestion only applies if you have a hard time getting inside your car with your key. If you continue to insert your key into the ignition when it is clearly damaged, you’re only making the problem worse. What eventually happens is that it also begins to damage your car key. When the car key is damaged, you may be locked out because it will no longer open your car door. The best and most effective solution to avoid this scenario from happening is to invest in new locks for your car door. While this may not be an expense that you can afford, ask yourself if you can afford not to have new locks installed. If you do not want to have to deal with the misfortune of being locked out, get new locks today.
- Don’t Continue Duplicating Keys
It is practical to have a spare key made in cases such as this. However, we caution you against continuing to have keys made from any other than the original key. The best way to do this is to have duplicate keys made as soon as you purchase your car. The reason we are telling you this is because every time you duplicate a key, it is further and further away from the original. Once it is too far from the original, it will no longer work. If you still have your original car keys, do yourself a favor by allowing a locksmith from Mount Pleasant Locksmith to make you several spare keys today.
- Keep Your Keys on You
The moment your keys are out of your sight, you should consider the possibility of never getting them back. You may send someone to your car to fetch something and they drop them along the way or they leave them on your car seat. Even though these are things that you could also do, you may have already developed a routine that works so well that you never lock your keys in the car. The person you may have passed your keys to may not have a routine to ensure the keys are always with them.
It is also better if you only take your car keys out when you are either standing directly in front of your car or are walking toward your car. You may not realize how easy it is to lay your keys down when you’re at the check-out of the grocery store, looking for something on a shelf that is to far back, trying to find something in your hand-bag or simply paying for something. It can happen so quickly and without even realizing it.
- Have Spare Keys
Ok, we realize this won’t prevent you from locking yourself out of your car but the good news is that whenever you are locked out of your car, you now have a way back in. Just make sure that someone who is reliable and not prone to travel frequently; has a spare key. If you have a spare key to your home, don’t you think it is just as important and beneficial to have one for your car. We highly recommend that you do not put your spare key on your keychain with your car keys; it would be counterproductive to do so. Give the key to someone else or have one at home that can be retrieved and brought to you.
